Collaboration Tools
Collaboration Articles

This section contains a collection of web collaboration websites, online article references, and a selected list of collaborative tools (groupware). Many of these sites describe in detail the concepts of Collaboration Tools (Groupware), and Collaboration technologies.

What are Collaborative Tools?
Collaborative tools (groupware) are computer-based tools that help people work together and share information. They allow for virtual on-line meetings and data sharing. Some examples of collaborative tools include: calendar, bulletin board, chat, whiteboard, audio, video, discussion groups (newsgroups), file sharing tools, presentation tools, application sharing, persistent capability, instant messaging, search capability (people and documents), offline paging/messaging, online paging, text tools.

What do Collaborative tools provide?
They bring geographically dispersed teams together for virtual meetings across great distances. This results in: tremendous time and cost savings, greatly decreased travel requirements, faster and better decision making, and improved communications flow throughout the organization.

Organizations and their processes are not linear. They are dynamic and operate in parallel over great distances. Collaboration technologies improve parallel processing, knowledge worker productivity, coordination, and adaptiveness.
