Technology in Higher EducationIndependent Study Projectby Todd Kellyfor Dr. Stephen RuthDescription:
This project is divided into the following sections: ProfessorsThis section will list those professors (and their like) who have played a significant role in the higher education community in adapting technology to their curriculum. These professors are considered "cutting-edge" by many of their peers in higher education for their willingness to "try something different" in hopes of streamlining the way that education is delivered as well as the costs associated with delivering that education. PlayersThis section will list those players (institutions) who have embraced technology and are leveraging it through unique programs. These players are hoping to have more of a "first player advantage" by unleasing a new way of educating students at a lower cost while providing them with a higher quality education. ProgramsThis section will list the programs (different from players) that deliver high value education through embracing technology. Furthermore, these programs are known in the academia community for their ability to adpat to technology change, use it to their advantage and supply their community with graduates who are technologically savy. PayoffThe payoff for technology in the higher education market offers differing opinions depending on who you ask. One thing is for certain and that is that technology in of itself is not a solution to providing quality education. Too often, educators are purchasing cutting-edge equipment without a strategy on how it will affect the bottom line of their product -- delivering a quality, well-rounded education to its students. This section will list links to sites who have differing levels of opinions on how the technology that they have implemented in their environments have yeilded significant results. PlumbingHaving the infrastructure in place to efficiently utilize the technology is very important. This section will describe what other institutes of higher education are using and what is recommended. In addition, this section will list links and reviews to cutting edge courseware, software, solutions to providing education.
